Preparing for NG200

I was honoured to be commissioned by the director of the National Gallery, Gabriele Finaldi, to write the official bicentenary history of that institution. This is an opportunity to revisit a subject I first tackled for my Cambridge PhD thesis, which became my first book, The Nation's Mantelpiece, published in 2006. Rather than revising and updating that book, I will be undertaking new research and writing a totally new book. This project forms part of NG200, which will be a year-long nationwide programme of outreach events.
